Claire Best Handmade Shoes is a business dedicated to slow fashion and high quality workmanship. Claire Best is a shoe maker based in Melbourne, Australia. Her footwear is designed and made by hand, with an emphasis on quality materials, craftsmanship, contemporary design and innovation.  All aspects of production take place in her Brunswick workshop, and each pair of shoes are made to order.

Payment is processed securely through our webstore. For custom orders, direct transfer is also available. Please enquire for other payment options.  All items are charged in AUD currency.


Shipping costs are calculated at checkout. All items are shipped via Australia Post with tracking. No insurance is provided, please get in touch if you require insurance.

Please note Claire Best Handmade Shoes is not responsible for any goods lost or damaged in transit.  For international orders, any extra costs incured through taxes or stamp duties at customs are the responsibility of the customer. Please contact your local customs office if you require further information.

The cost of shipping on returned items is at the expense of the customer.

Order Processing

Each pair of shoes is made to order, and many hours are put in to making sure they are of the finest quality and workmanship. When selecting hand painted colourway options, please be aware no drawing is the same and all shoes are unique. There is also variation between pairs. If you would like see a leather swatch or have input into pattern, please get in touch via the Contacts page.

Once your order is confirmed, it is not possible to make changes to the size or colour of the shoes. There is a three week make time for all orders, however leather colour is subject to availability. You will be notified immediately if there is any delay or issue with supply.  You will be notified once your shoes are finished and ready to ship.

Returns Policy

Items may be returned if they are faulty, do not match their description, or are not the item that was ordered. No refund is available for items that are the incorrect size. Please check the size guide carefully or make an enquiry via the Contacts page if you are unsure of fit. 

Items that are the incorrect size may be exchanged, or the customer may be issued with a credit note for the same value, valid for 12 months from date of issue. Please note, exchanges will incur another three week wait time.  Returns must be sent within 7 days of receipt within Australia and 14 days for all other countries. Returned items must be unscuffed or worn, in sell-able condition and be in original packaging and with any tags attached. Please try your shoes on a carpeted surface. 

No refunds, exchanges or returns on SALE items, please choose carefully.
